What: One of the most well-known and frequently collected lines of mini figures produced. Monster in My Pocket (MIMP) was a series of rubber and plastic mini figures initially based on monsters from mythology of various cultures, then expanding to other creatures such as dinosaurs, aliens and monster wrestlers. The original look and feel of the line--one-color, rubber figures--lasted over the first three series, with painted details and a harder plastic material being introduced in subsequent lines.
When: 1990 (series one), with additional series and spinoffs following throughout the early-mid 1990s. MIMP was revived briefly in the U.K. in the mid-2000s, with a line of newly-sculpted, highly-detailed, fully painted versions of selected original Series 1-3 monsters.
Where: Various countries, sold in toy stores, department stores
Who: Developed by Morrison Entertainment Group, released by Matchbox. Later, UK-only lines were produced by Corinthian Marketing
I once sold three of the series 3 on ebay for 200 some odd dollars to a collector in europe. It was two of the orange saquatches and on anubis in purple (I think purple) Up until then, I had no idea they were valuable. I listed them in a big lot of little figures, and got a million emails from people just wanting close-ups of those three.
ReplyDeleteSince then I come across MIMP all the time, but no premium ones.
I sell stuff on ebay and am a thrift store addict/collector, so I keep an eye out for stuff all the time.
If there is anything you are interested in, let me know and I will keep an eye out for it.
How many times can someone type keep an eye out.
Yeah, series 3 fetch some crazy prices. I am glad I got my set a long time ago when prices were not QUITE as crazy.
DeleteThank you for your kind offer to keep an eye out. As I'm sure you can tell from this site I collect a wide variety of mini figures, so any thrift store finds you come across of MIMP, MUSCLE or anything similar I am sure I would be interested in. :)
Could you please tell me the name of the third guy down(waering the tophat) on the lefthandside of MIMP Series 4, Super Scary full set (1992)? I rememger him as being plain, but anyway, he was me favourite.
ReplyDeleteThanks in advance,
Liam.
Hey Liam, that guy is called Houngan. Some series 4 figures were released unpainted in the U.K.
DeleteHe also had a different name in the UK! Here he was known/labelled as "Undead Zombie".
DeleteIt bugs me that Series 3 is so rare, I'm not crazy enough to spend that kind of cheddar on these and so I'll never be able to complete the set. I see fan castings of the more common MIMPs on eBay sometimes, hasn't some civic-hearted owner of S3 ever made any copies?
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure if anyone has made copies, but I bet if you wait it out you'll eventually be able to get them for a reasonable price. It seems to me now is a horrible time to collect MIMPs. The prices are insane.
DeleteHi there, nice blog.
ReplyDeleteDo you know much about the Series 6b, Secret Skeleton Dinosaurs. Are they rare? Not having much luck finding them anywhere.
Cheers
Thanks! I actually don't know too much about the Secret Skeleton Dinos. I don't own any myself. Sorry I can't be of more help, but good luck in your search.
DeleteHave you guys heard of the peruvian version of these figures? They were released in 1993-1994 and they are smaller in size than the ones Matchbox released, between 3-3,5 cm.
ReplyDeleteAnyone interested in a bulk lot of MIMP Secret Skeleton Dinos?
ReplyDeleteLet me know -
