Ornery oranges
There are a lot of moments in my life where I just stop what I'm doing and say to myself, "Damn, I'm a huge geek." One such moment came during the process of taking the above photo, during which I spent way too much time picking out, arranging and shooting a group of orange toys. I had so much fun taking a pic of a bunch of green mini figures together that I wanted to do the same for other colors, starting with orange. See? Huge geek. But if being a toy geek is wrong, I don't wanna be right. Now to figure out which color to do next...
Here are the toy lines featured in this photo: Dragons N Monsters, MUSCLE, Mini Boglins, vending machine knockoff of Marty Toy space creature, Diener Space Creatures, Garbage Pail Kids Cheap Toys, Necros Fortress, Freakies, party favor monster, Space Ace, mini vending machine kaiju, Monster in My Pocket
Quick question - how do you take pictures as good-looking as this?? Everytime I try to take pictures of small rubber monsters, they're either blurry, grainy or too bright to make out any details. Does the white background have anything to do with it?
ReplyDeleteHey THB, glad you like my photos! I just started taking pics of toys early this year, so I'm not going to claim I really know what I'm talking about. But from what I have experienced through trial and error, there are a couple things key to getting good shots of small objects: 1) a good camera with a Macro setting, which is a setting used for capturing small things in close-up detail (I use a Nikon D3100). DSLR cameras can be expensive but are totally worth it. 2) Good lighting--shooting either outdoors (not too sunny) or using powerful tabletop photography lighting indoors works wonders. Solid white or black backdrops can also help show off details but I don't think it's essential to getting good shots of small figures. I hope this helps!
DeleteCheers for that, I'll give it a try when the time comes. I have a Fujifilm AV130, which DOES have Macro settings on it. My problem may be that I've been using the ceiling lights for lighting, rather than a desk lamp. This is what shall be considered in the future. Thanks!
